Brewdog 5AM Saint primes my steakly palate

At The Old Place to celebrate Nick G's 29th berfday with his family. The restaurant is hidden deep in the Santa Monica mountains East of Malibu in the small town where they filmed shows such as M.A.S.H and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (David's 2nd favorite rerun show behind The Wonder Years).

The restaurant has been cooking steaks for the last 50 years on the same grill, and their meat has quite the distinctive smokey taste. Also, there is a winery next door which I'd love return during the day and have some wine then follow up with more Noodle & Cheese Bake and Steak - The Old Place menu.

They have a surprisingly pleasant beer list. I dive into one worthy of a steak joint and a Brewdog I haven't seen before.
Um, a little more mood lighting please? I need more darkness

First off, 5am Saint is a great freaking name. Iconoclastic Amber Ale, which is labeled at the bottom, is a bold statement but it's totally backed up. This beer is smooth with a nutty bite and just the right amount of sweetness.  The more I drink the more excellent it becomes. This is the type of Amber Ale I want every other Amber to be. Itg oes well with food too. THE ROCK rating

I finish of this beer before the main course and order an Oaked Arrogant Bastard for the steak, which is a brilliant move on my part. In the future when you grill, find a six pack of the oaked bastardo, it'll do your bbq wonders.

Nick's been my closest friend for 9 years and counting, and like a fine wine or 15 year-old girls, he only gets better with age.

Brewdog Bashah is loco and I like it

This beer combines what has apparently become my two Texas traditions, brewery collaborations and smaller than normal beers (between 7 and 11 ounces). This collaboration is between Stone Brewery in San Diego and Brewdog in Scotland (where the Bashah is bottled) and clocks in at 8.6% alcohol.

Get this though, this is a BLACK BELGIAN STYLE DOUBLE INDIA PALE ALE. Grande Pelotas de Fuego! This is an outrageous beer.

Darth Stewie rules, bitches
Wow, they couldn't have made a crazier beer (as the title may suggest). This smells like the Tootsie Roll from Heaven, sweet and not crappy. It has a rich roasted coffee malt profile that is sweet and rounds out with a touch of hops. This is a big, bold and complex beer that is a subtle blending of its various elements. Only once in a blue moon will you find a beer this extravagant, daring and equally tasty, so keep your eyes peeled for it. THE ROCK rating.

Also, I like how they don't attempt attempt to explain or define the name they gave this, and I'm glad they didn't because confining this ridiculous blend with a derivative name wouldn't be justifying it.

And how cool is this label? If I was a hell-spawned Demon, I'd like that as my family crest.

Brewdog Hardocre IPA 9.2 Imperial Ale is a forget-me-not

David takes off tomorrow (Friday) for Munich so we had our first post midnight tasting 12:30am and chose the mysterious Brewdog....brew.
Ahhh, right
This fella was a doozy. It was wild, like a free-range turkey. This dog really brewed my stew. Imperceptibly, it was like drinking Novocaine, and I can't believe the beer actually ripped my taste buds right off. Like love, it was a mysterious fig.

Ok, gig's up. In case the light bulb hasn't turned on, I can't remember drinking this beer, which is terrible. Not terrible that my faculties failed - pfff, what's new - but that I can't remember Friday's beer. I'd been drinking Wild Turkey on the rocks all night during the IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA and THE LEAGUE season premieres. It was late and whatever, I'm not gonna apologize. Sometimes I'm a terrific lush.

However, I will pledge to drink this again and create a proper write up, so the P.S. you'll see below sometime in the future will be my addendum. Rating pending...
