Real Brewing Remembers the Alamo, Golden Ale Edition

As I head to the airport and say goodbye to Houston, mom can't help herself and sends me packing with a grab bag of all things Texan - bbq, texas firecrackers and blueberries...? Two out of three ain't bad. For my ride to the airport, I pour an Alamo golden ale, which I'm excited to try just because it involves the state's biggest landmark, besides the world's largest cowboy boots:http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/7815.
The Golden ale is malty for the style and reminds me of a German bock or an Oktoberfest in that manner. They say it's a velvety on the back and they ain't lying. This isn't a great beer but it's a good drinking beer. TRANSFORMERS rating, worthy of the Alamo. God willing, Michael Bay will one day let it be destroyed by a either a giant robot or a pair of rogue cops on their way back to Miami.

Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale is more of a Gremlin than Man's Best Friend

Took the kayak out (haven't since 4th July) and had an awesome early afternoon meeting up with peeps from Red Bull, which culminated in a late El Torito brunch. Later we headed to SUSHI STOP on Sawtelle for, wait for it, sushi. Every plate here is $3 and I had an incredible plate of Salmon Bellies. I could feast on those all day, as well as the Eel and Pampano. Check it out here: Sushi Stop and click on 'specials' on the top left. I'm pretty excited to take a date there and not tell her how much I'm not spending on her.

We almost convinced the hip waitress to let us bring the sixer of Golden Ale in, but I'm glad we didn't...
Baxter, bark twice if you're in Milwaukee
Afterwards, I brought this to a rooftop party in Westwood for Jooey and I might be switching to Maker's Mark. It's a fairly lackluster showing for a golden ale. Tire Bite has a weak, watery body and a bitter taste. I've had better. Flying Dog's Raging Bitch Belgian IPA is one of my favorite beers but unfortunately, Tire Bite is just the Bitch's piss. THE ISLAND rating.

Wasatch Golden Ale out of one chubby and into another

I'm a fat kid at heart, so I have a special affection for Chubby's. We opened up this big boy last night but it's still good this morning. Also, I love this table in our ski condo.
Yogi bear is always so close!
This is simple and delicious golden ale. Clean and crisp with a medium body and citrus notes. This ale hits all the right notes and it's cheap! At 5 Liters (='s 15 beers) for only $23 bucks, it's at a great price. If you're in Utah pick one up for your next hootenanny or hoedown. TRANSFORMERS rating.

When Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 'makes a funny' you may say he's being a...

PRANQSTER. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ahhm. From North Coast Brewing comes a Belgian Style Golden Ale that compels you suavely say, 'Hello beautiful. Shhh, no words. I'm just gonna drink you."
Hello GoldBeer, seems we meet again
Saturday night I took a detour from a pub crawl on Main St. to drink this on tap (!) at the Library Alehouse. I was joined by Melissa R, Jessica W, Blake L and Nick G (who all loved sipping on Allagash White). Back to Pranqster, it's an unfiltered smooth golden ale. Look at that body! The taste is rich and substantial but also subtle. It's a nearly perfect beer. Nearly. It lacks a little spice, a distinctive kick that makes you say, 'that's the one.'

Some people may disagree with me on this, but here's my take. A home cooked meal usually lacks the polish of a professional chef, however, it can still be terrifically delicious. I will always order Pranqster at the Library Alehouse, as it makes me a happy camper. That being said, in my hearts of hearts and liver of livers, I don't feel this beer deserves the penultimate honor. But please, enjoy your stay at THE ROCK.
